The Ministry of Education opened the Dokdo Museum Seoul in 2012 and planned a series of exhibitions to promote historically correct awareness of Dokdo for both locals and foreigners, and the Northeast Asian History Foundation was commissioned to be in charge of its operation. The Museum has content that can be viewed and enjoyed by various age groups such as a large, scaled model (1/120) of Dokdo with 3D projection mapping imaging technique, video materials describing and demonstrating the 1,500-year history of Dokdo in chronological order, and a 4D movie theater that allows live experience on Dokdo's topography, geology, and ecosystem. In 2018, the special exhibition room was refurbished, the Dokdo digital archive was newly built, and exhibits such as the Dokdo Newspaper and Dokdo chronological table were replaced to new ones.
Every year at Dokdo Museum Seoul, various experience activity programs have been in operation such as ‘I am the curator today’, ‘Dokdo Puppet Show’ and ‘Writing Dokdo Postcards.’ The diversification and expansion of career experience education programs in connection with the free learning semester system helps more students to gain vivid and tangible experience with Dokdo.
Dokdo Museum Seoul moved to Yeongdeungpo-gu in October 2022.
